Cultivating Skill & Morality: Understanding Sila (शील)
Sīla — a Pāli word that can be translated as 'morality' or 'virtue' — is the one of the three trainings that lead to the end of suffering from the teachings of the Buddha. Developing good conduct aimed at the benefit of ourselves and others accumulates merit, is the cause for good conditions in our lives and ultimately helps us wherever we are on our path. Learning the distinction between beneficial and non-beneficial actions and how to cultivate skillful action allows us to progress in our spiritual practice.
